About

Built by hand, run by the people who own her

Riley Phinisi is a 29-metre Buginese schooner launched in 2020, sailing private charters through Komodo National Park with four en-suite cabins for up to ten guests.

She was built the way phinisi have been built for generations — ironwood hull, twin masts, joinery cut by hand in South Sulawesi shipyards where the craft passes from father to son. What the shipwrights could not have planned for is what we asked of her afterwards: four en-suite cabins, an on-deck jacuzzi facing the bow, and a galley run by a chef who treats a crossing between islands as an excuse for a five-course dinner.

Riley is owned and operated by Komodo Luxury — not chartered in, not brokered. The crew is employed directly and bookings are handled by the operator rather than an agent.

Why Komodo

This stretch of sea rewards a slow boat

We sail Riley across Komodo National Park and along the Lombok–Labuan Bajo corridor because nowhere else in Indonesia repays a slow boat quite like it. Padar's ridgeline at sunrise, the dragons of Komodo and Rinca, the pink sand at Pantai Merah, manta rays holding position in the current at Manta Point — these are places you reach properly by sleeping on the water, not by racing a speedboat out and back in a day.

A private charter means the schedule bends to you: an extra hour snorkelling, dinner anchored off an empty bay, a route that skips the crowds entirely.

Who she suits

Boutique by design, not by accident

With four cabins and a maximum of ten guests, Riley sits deliberately in boutique territory. She suits two or three couples travelling together, a family taking over the whole boat, or a small group of friends who want the crew-to-guest ratio of a far more expensive yacht without chartering one.

Every cabin is air-conditioned with its own bathroom. The saloon, the dining deck and the sun deck give everyone room to disappear with a book and reappear for meals.

Sun deck, jacuzzi, lounge and the open dining table — the spaces that make a multi-night charter feel like a house rather than a boat.

The operator

Part of the Komodo Luxury fleet

Riley Phinisi is owned and operated by Komodo Luxury, a yacht charter operator headquartered in Bali with operational bases in Labuan Bajo, the gateway to Komodo National Park.

Komodo Luxury has spent more than a decade running private charters, premium cabin cruises and bespoke sailing expeditions across the park — work recognised with a TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Award — and also manages yacht investment and professional yacht management for owners.

Riley sails alongside sister vessels including the flagship Komodo Signature, Ayvara and Malca, which means our guests inherit the fleet's crews, safety standards and provisioning networks rather than relying on a single boat's resources.

Before you book

Four practical notes

01

Getting here

Most guests fly into Labuan Bajo (LBJ) via Bali or Jakarta. We can also arrange departures from Lombok for anyone who wants the longer crossing.

02

When to sail

The dry season runs April to November and offers the most reliable weather. Riley operates March through December, sea conditions permitting.

03

Park fees

Komodo National Park entrance is paid separately from the charter, in cash, per person. Current rates are confirmed at the time of booking.

04

Holding a date

A 50% deposit confirms the booking, with the balance due 30 days before departure. Tell us your dates and we will build the route around you.
