Safety, honestly: life jackets, crew, and the limits you should know

Riley Phinisi carries life jackets for every guest, a full professional crew, maritime GPS, and VHF radio, and the tender handles all beach landings so children never climb down a hull ladder into surf. That said, honest answers matter more than reassuring ones, so here are the limits:

• Child sizes: tell the booking team the exact ages of your children so appropriately sized life jackets are confirmed before departure. For infants and children under about 4, we recommend bringing your own trusted vest — a familiar fit matters at that age.
• Supervision is still yours: the crew watches every swim stop, but this is open ocean, not a resort pool with a lifeguard. One adult per small child in the water is the rule that works.
• The deck jacuzzi is a family favorite, and children use it under direct adult supervision only — never while the boat is underway in swell.
• Komodo dragons are wild animals. On the ranger-guided walks at Rinca and Komodo, children must stay within arm’s reach of a parent and the ranger at all times. Trails are uneven — no strollers; babies go in carriers.
